apologies about this one if there is a problem viewing it. I am new to editing and uploading onto youtube etc. what I am looking for is an easy program to format or lower the resolution and size as well as easy editing. This is all new territory to me so I thought I would have a go…unsuccessfully! I am using a sony camcorder with its own hard-drive. The cool thing about the camera is besides taking stills its fairly easy to use and has its own station that can connect to a pc through usb or can connect to a monitor or TV. I was getting to the cool part. It has a one touch function that once your memory is full you can burn directly to disc by pressing a button which I find handy though I have only used it once. I would eventually like to get enough footage together to have a cool collection of the experiences people have in ibogaine as well as some before and after type stuff. Anyway if anyone can suggest an easy editing program please let me know so I can share some of the experiences that people are willing to share. Take care!

    That's cool Simon.

Are you using a PC or Mac?

If you're using Mac, you can do very basic editing in QuickTime I believe, but I'd recommend using at least iMovie. Very simple, very straightforward, small learning curve. Format/size conversions can be done in both. Compressor is also a good conversion program. If you're on PC, then you've got a bunch of available choices to download and use for free. I'm a Mac user, so I'm not sure what the best solution would be for PC. I think QT is also available for PC, no?

Windows has a movie maker with all the tools you need.

Just type it in the search bar of windows explorer, Windows movie maker.

Format/size compress cut copy and paste.

      Also edit sound.

      Be well'

It was cool Simon. I caught most of it. The beginning was a bit hard to understand. A bit too much noise in the background bro. I understand this might have been unprepared/impromptu, but next time, try to pick a quit place if you can. Somewhere in nature preferably, or comfortably inside, by a window. Your subject will be more at ease as well. Even better if you were to put the cam on a tripod, hit record, and slowly ease your subject into a conversation. Tape off the red record indicator led too. Trust me, it makes a world of difference. I'm a cameraman by trade btw. Should you ever have any camera related questions, feel free to hit me up. I'd be glad to support you in whatever manner I can.

        A for effort =]

This was my first try and know that there could be allot of room for improvment I just thought I would bring the camer and ask him if he wanted to sat a few words. I willget there but this is my first step and allot of people are intimidated by cameras and go all shy so considering it was a spur of the moment type thing......thanks and i wil look to you for some advice in the future, perhaps I could mail you some footage on dvd and you could edit it and play around a bit if you like and have the time.

            Sounds good Simon.

Please be sure not to take anything I said personally. Not suggesting that you did either or anything, just stressing that it wasn't my intent to criticise your initiative at all. Naturally, it was only intended as an encouragement. Like I said, A for effort. I understand and suspected it was a spur of the moment thing. Once you take care of the basics (stable well lit camera image and relatively clean sound) it's all psychology. Putting the camera on a tripod, behind you over your shoulder let's say, allows you to focus all of your attention completely on the subject you are interviewing. You can let it run in advance and just start a conversation. Better even would be to have everything set up in advance, so all you have to do is walk into the room with your client, sit down and start talking, paying no attention to the camera whatsoever. Start it in advance. Tape is cheap. Do tape off any blinking lights or anything else that indicates the camera is running as this will be a source of distraction, and your client may become too self aware. Slowly get into the meat of the matter and let your client/patient take it away while maintaining consistent eye contact throughout. It takes time for a person to completely open up, but they'll do it, granted you win their comfort and trust. If you play your cards right, they'll forget that the camera is even there. Their focus will be on you instead, just as your's would be on them.

Rest assured, nobody expects you to come up with professionally looking imagery, so please don't sweat that aspect. In general, you have more leeway with the image quality than with sound quality. Imperfections, disturbances etc in sound will always by far stand out over imperfections in the image. We take sound quality for granted, yet it can make or break a shot when it distracts. An indoor location does help isolate lots of random ambient noise, so...

I'm looking forward to your next clip. After a while, if you have collected a series of interesting ones, you could maybe produce a montage of highlights; all the best moments... maybe add some subtle ambient background music even. The wonderfully persuasive options, available in the editing process...

            Cheers,
            d.

Thanks, that was a help and encouraging, thanks allot. I am also looking forward to the gathering on Saturday. I hope to get some good pics and some interesting info on Bwiti and iboga in terms of tradition. I will pay more attention to sound and make it a priority as I guess if you have a good sound track you can always play around with the imagery.
              Cheers, Simon
